My Story
I’m Marissa. I’m the mother to two beautiful boys, Laurence Indigo and Julien Wilder. Being a mom is my greatest gift in life. My children have motivated and inspired me to pursue postpartum doula work because I believe that in order to hold space and show up for your children, people need to do the same for you.
I have explored doula work for the past few years, needing time (and to have children of my own) to really understand what it means to be in this space and how I want to show up for others. While my initial training was as a birth doula, I’m pulled more towards the postpartum space after having babies of my own and learning first hand how challenging of a transition it can be, and how often times in modern culture we feel like we’re doing it alone. We spend so much of our pregnancies preparing for birth and I don’t think we spend enough time preparing for what comes after.
Mothers and birthing people deserve more support in our society during the biggest transition in their life. For generations our ancestors relied on one another to nurture and care for the birthing person. The lack of a modern day village makes it very hard to get the support you need. As your postpartum doula, I will meet you where you are and offer support in whichever way you need most, from deeply nourishing and healing foods to home visits that may involve light housework, holding and caring for baby while parents rest and helping the birthing person to process their birth experience.
